How to use

  1. Enter the fuel economy figure from your dashboard, sticker, or spec sheet.
  2. Select whether it is L/100 km, US mpg, or UK imperial mpg.
  3. Read the converted values—compare European specs to US mpg on equal footing.
  4. Remember: lower L/100 km is better; higher mpg is better—they are inverse notions.
  5. Switch between US and UK mpg if you read British automotive press.
  6. Use conversions for rental cars abroad or importing vehicle stats.

Examples

  • 7 L/100 km to US mpg (efficient sedan)
  • 35 US mpg to L/100 km
  • 40 UK mpg to US mpg (watch gallon size)
  • 9.5 L/100 km combined cycle to mpg
  • 50 US mpg hybrid to L/100 km
  • Compare 6 L/100 km vs 8 L/100 km as mpg difference

FAQ

US vs UK gallon?
US gallon ≈ 3.785 L; UK (imperial) gallon ≈ 4.546 L. UK mpg numbers look higher for the same efficiency.
Why not km/L?
Some regions use km/L; convert via L/100 km (km/L = 100 ÷ L/100km).
Are lab test numbers real world?
No. EPA/WLTP/NEDC figures differ; conversion only aligns units, not driving style.
Electric MPGe?
This tool is for liquid fuel units. EV efficiency uses kWh/100 km or MPGe separately.
Does diesel vs petrol matter?
Not for unit conversion—only for environmental and cost comparisons.
Where is it calculated?
In your browser only.
